Cardiac Care at Lea Regional Medical Center focuses on the functions and disorders of the heart and its connected circulatory system. According to the American Heart Association, 84 million people in the U.S. suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease, affecting blood flow throughout the body. Cardiovascular disease can lead to heart attacks, strokes or other serious complications.
We're proud to offer a full range of cardiac care services at Lea Regional Medical Center. Whether your doctor prescribes a stress test, an EKG or Holter monitoring, we can help you get the care you need, close to home.
We provide classic treadmill and chemical stress tests for our patients, which allow our cardiologist to diagnose a blocked artery or other problem. Cardiac imaging is performed both before and after the test so your physician can see how stress affects your heart. We also work with out-of-town cardiologists so you can receive a wide variety of testing services.
During a heart attack, time equals muscle. The longer your heart is deprived of oxygen, the more muscle tissue you lose. Calling 911 for emergency help can increase your odds of survival if you're having a heart attack.
Lea Regional has a partnership with local EMS so that EKG results can be transmitted directly to the ER from the ambulance. EMS can also start administering oxygen and drugs, if necessary, so that your treatment begins before you even walk through the door.
Many people who are having a heart attack ignore their chest pain or attribute it to another factor, since chest pain isn't always sudden or intense, as many expect it to be. In fact, chest pain that is caused by heart attack can occur hours, days or even weeks before the actual attack.
In general, chest pain that lasts for more than a few minutes should be treated as a medical emergency. Remember, it is better to have chest pain checked out than to wait and suffer permanent heart damage or even death.
