Welcome

Lea Regional Medical Center is pleased to offer digital mammography. This new technology enhances the capabilities of detecting breast cancer early. "This advanced equipment is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is viewed, and more importantly, manipulated," said Christina Seed, Director of Radiology.

The images appear on the technologist's monitor in a matter of seconds; therefore, there is no waiting for film to develop, which means less time for patients. In addition, because there is no developing film, it significantly reduces the need for repeat exams due to under or overexposure. Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically, eliminating the dependency on one set of original films, which can be misfiled or lost in transit.

The American Cancer Society recommends that all women have a baseline screening mammogram between the age of 35 and 40 and that beginning at the age of 40, women have annual screening mammograms. In addition to annual screenings for women 40 and older, women with certain risk factors should discuss an appropriate screening program with their physician.

Lea Regional Medical Center's primary mission is to offer high quality, acute health care and preventative medical care in a caring and compassionate manner to all people who live in, work in, or visit Hobbs and its surrounding areas. If you would like to schedule a mammogram or have questions about this important breast health procedure, please contact the radiology department at 575.492.5167.
