Medical Imaging
The Medical Imaging Department (historically called the "x-ray" or "radiology" department) provides the necessary diagnostic tools needed for patients and physicians in the community.
In February of this year, Lea Regional introduced digital mammography, which will help to detect breast cancer earlier. "This advanced equipment is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is viewed, and more importantly, manipulated," said Christina Seed, Director of Radiology.
Digital mammography feels identical to conventional screenings from a patient's perspective, though women may notice shorter exam times and a reduction in call-backs to obtain additional images. Demand for the digital mammography is high, and women are excited and pleased that Lea Regional Medical Center offers this quality technology.
The American Cancer Society recommends that all women have a baseline screening mammogram between the age of 35 and 40 and that beginning at age 40, women have annual screening mammograms. In addition to annual screenings for women 40 and older, women with certain risk factors should discuss an appropriate screening program with their physician.
If you would like to schedule a mammogram or have questions about this important breast health procedure, please contact the radiology department at 575.492.5167.

In addition to digital mammography, the Medical Imaging department has a bone density lab for evaluating osteoporosis, and numerous diagnostic x-ray rooms. The department also provides other specialty services such as a Nuclear Medicine Department, which can do routine heart studies, an Ultrasound Department capable of performing routine exams and specialty procedures like the heart and vessels, a helical CT scanner, and an open MRI, which reduces claustrophobia for patients. LRMC was the first in the region to offer open MRI services.
Lea Regional has the area's only 1.5 Tessla MRI, which means that our images are even more accurate and precise and scan time is faster. Our images are viewed and interpreted by a locally based, board-certified radiologist. A digital x-ray system allows doctors to view thier patients' exams almost instantly - which means you'll get your results quicker.
